THE PREEMINENT THEME
Is the cross of Jesus Christ the preeminent theme of your home? Do your children know, without doubt, that it is only by embracing the cross of Jesus that we have hope in this life and the next?
Paul confessed: “God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world” (Galatians 6:14).
What do you honor most in your home—the cross of Jesus Christ or the things of this world?
I love to sing hymns about the cross, don’t you? The following are words from the hymn by Thomas Kelly:
The cross: it takes our guilt away;
It holds the fainting spirit up;
It cheers with hope the gloomy day,
And sweetens ev’ry bitter cup.
Do your children know the hymn, “Tell me the story of Jesus” by Fanny Crosby? Here’s one stanza:
Tell of the cross where they nailed Him,
Writhing in anguish and pain;
Tell of the grave where they laid Him,
Tell how He liveth again.
Love in that story so tender,
Clearer than ever I see;
Stay, let me weep while you whisper,
“Love paid the ransom for me.”
May the cross overshadow everything we do and say in our home today.
