SALT SHAKERS SPEAK GRACIOUS WORDS, No. 2
Colossians 4:6: “Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”
When Jesus told us to be the salt of the earth, He meant it to also affect our speech. At all occasions, whether good or bad, even when we are tempted to be angry, we must speak graciously and lovingly.
In the following Scriptures, we see how grace is manifested in our speech.
Psalm 45:2: “Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee forever.” Just as our Lord and Savior spoke with such grace, as described in this Scripture, we as His followers should always and at all times speak with graciousness.
Proverb s 10:21: “The lips of the righteous feed many.” What a blessing to feed our families and hungry souls with righteous words.
Proverbs 15:1: “A soft answer turns away wrath, but grievous words stir up anger.” We must learn to resist the feelings of the flesh and instead respond to hurtful words and deeds against us with a soft answer that ministers peace rather than strife.
Proverbs 18:21: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” If we love to slay people with our tongues, we will reap what we sow. If we love to minister life to people through loving, edifying, and encouraging words we will also reap what we sow.
Luke 4:22: “And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth.” It must have been wonderful to hear the way Jesus spoke. The people were amazed and astonished (Luke 2:47, 48). The word “amazed” is mentioned at least 13 times regarding people’s response to the ministry of Jesus.
Men, we must set this example before our wives and children for this how we teach them to speak with grace.
Be encouraged.
