QUINTESSENTIALLY FEMININE, Part 1, No. 495

QUINTESSENTIALLY FEMININE
Part 1

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them”
(Genesis 1:27).

I read these beautiful words, “quintessentially feminine” in Song of Songs (The Message) and was arrested by them. What does it mean to be feminine? I don’t mean feminine according to society’s standards, but rather what is quintessentially feminine. It means the perfect embodiment of who God originally created us to be. It is who we are in our purest form. Instead of looking around us to see what other women are doing to find our standard, we check the plumb line of God’s Word or even at our inherent inclinations which God has divinely put within us.

One of the most beautiful aspects of femininity is pregnancy. The pregnant figure is beautiful. In this awesome time of a woman’s life, she has the privilege of housing and growing a new life, a life that will not only be born into this world, but an eternal soul that will live forever. Absolutely nothing in this world is more powerful than nurturing an eternal soul. This season of a woman’s life is only for a certain time. It is her time of visitation which is only about 20 plus years of her whole life, not many years when you consider that most women live into their eighties and nineties today. It is the privileged time of a woman’s life when God can visit her to conceive life.

Every conception discloses a visitation of God. Mere man cannot give conception. After Hannah dedicated her firstborn Samuel to God and took him to live at the temple, God “visited” her five more times and gave her five more children (1 Samuel 2:21). Genesis 21:1 also tells us how God “visited” Sarah and she conceived.

There are only two kinds of human beings in this world—a man without a womb, the male; and a man with a womb, the woman. The womb is distinctive to God’s female creation.1 To embrace our womb is to embrace who we are; to reject the function of the womb is to not only reject the true essence of femaleness, but to reject our Creator who designed us.

Does the handicraft disown its Craftsman? Isaiah 29:16 (RSV) says: “You turn things upside down! Shall the potter be regarded as the clay; and the thing made should say of its maker, ‘He did not make me’; or the thing formed say of him who formed it, ‘He has no understanding’?” Have we become so shaped by a godless society that we no longer understand who we are? What perversity!2

To reject motherhood is to reject the
transcendence of our femaleness.

Motherhood is also part of our innate femininity. Noah Webster’s 1928 dictionary describes quintessential as “the highest essence of power in a natural body.” Motherhood is primal, powerful, protecting and permeating—not only in our children’s lives but in all of society. Motherhood is not something we perform at a certain time of our life. Motherhood is who we are as a female. When we reject mothering, we reject who God created us to be. The desire to nurture is divinely inherent in every woman, even those who seemingly reject motherhood. Those who refuse to embrace children into their arms will usually have a cat or a dog, which they nurture like a human baby!

To embrace motherhood is to embrace quintessential femininity. Motherhood is the highest career in the nation. It is a divine mandate. It is the glory of the nation. We read in Hosea 9:11 how God told Ephraim that He would take away their “glory” as punishment for their sins. What was their glory? Conception, pregnancy, and birth!

Not only is motherhood innately within us, but it reveals the nature of God. One of the names of God is El Shaddai which reveals God as a nursing mother. Motherhood is not something we “have to do,” but it is the revelation of the nurturing heart of God.

Webster (1913) describes quintessence as “an extract from anything, containing its rarest virtue, or most subtle and essential constituent in a small quantity.” We are not El Shaddai, but a little “shad” revealing to the world the rarest virtue of motherhood. When we embrace, and live in the glory of motherhood, we show to the world what God is like. When we reject motherhood, we deprive the world of seeing this characteristic of God.

There are some women who cannot conceive naturally. Are they denied motherhood? No. When a woman expresses her nurturing instinct to mother the hurting and needy, the elderly, the orphans and widows, or even to adopt a child, she finds her fulfillment in mothering. The most renowned mother of our last century was Mother Theresa, a woman who never birthed children, but who was the greatest example of motherhood as she poured out her life for the downtrodden.

PRAYER:

“I thank You, dear Father God for the gift of femaleness. You chose to create me female. This is how I will fulfill my destiny on this earth. Help me to understand the fullness of Your plan for me as a female. Help me to walk in the glory of femaleness You created it to be. I ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.”

AFFIRMATION:

I live in the fulness of my femininity to glorify God.

THE BIG QUESTION! No. 494

THE BIG QUESTION!

“But now, O LORD, thou art our father;
we are clay, and thou our potter;
and we all are the work of thy hand.”
(Isaiah 64:8).

“When are you too old to have a baby?”

No woman is too old to have a baby if God grants conception! Fruitfulness belongs in God’s hands.

Women are in their childbearing years until they reach menopause, until they can no longer conceive. Most women reach menopause at the average age of 50 years—some sooner, some later.

However, even though you are in your childbearing years until you go through menopause, your fertility decreases as you get older. The current statistics are that most women are infertile by the time they are 45 years and 80 percent of women are infertile in their forties.

Your years of visitation disappear very soon. And you never know when it will happen. My daughter, Evangeline (who is blessed with 10 children) was hoping for more! But her last baby at 43 years was her last! She couldn’t believe it! She and her husband were hoping for five more!

Be open to God for His perfect will for your life. If He gives you more babies, they are His perfect and intended will for your life. If He doesn’t, you are still in His will. It takes away all the stress and frustration when you give the matter to God.

You may say, “Wow, I’ve never heard this before.” True. We live in a society that is educated beyond their intelligence. Most women want to stop childbearing in their early thirties (or even before), but we only need to look at our bodies to see the way God created us. If God wanted women to stop childbearing at that age, he would have planned for them to go through menopause at that age. But that’s not now He created us.

When you think about it, the age is perfect. If a woman starts having children when she is in her early twenties, by the time she gets to her mid and late forties, she has children who are marrying or ready to marry. She never has to go through the empty nest syndrome which most modern women of our age do. God never intended this.

He intends women to keep mothering all through their lives. This is what we were born to do. This keeps us maternal. This keeps us feminine. This keeps us in the will of God. This keeps us home. This keeps us beautiful. As our children grow, then the grandchildren start coming on, and so we are always mothering. God’s design is so wonderful.

And think about this: When God blesses us with a larger family and our older daughter is married. She has loads of eager baby sitters of younger siblings. They are desperate to hold the baby and love on the baby. It relives the stress of first-time mothering.

And as the baby grows, instead of being lonely, and the mother having to be the 24/7 entertainer of the baby, the baby has loads of uncles and aunties waiting to keep the little one entertained. Each generation is a blessing to the other.

My beautiful granddaughter, Meadow, recently experienced a second miscarriage. While she was going through this painful time, her younger sister, Autumn (14 years) was able to come and stay with her and care for her little one-year-old. Such a blessing.

Isn’t it sad that we have turned so far away from His perfect design for us?

Put your fertility in God’s hands. Relax. If God gives you more children, you will be blessed beyond measure. You are never too old to be pregnant and give birth to children until you go through menopause. Many mothers testify that they enjoy their best pregnancies and best births in their forties.

1 Corinthians 6:19: “What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and YE ARE NOT YOUR OWN? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

Blessings from Nancy Campbell

PRAYER:

“Thank you, dear Father, that I can trust the way You created me. You are the Potter. I am the clay. I thank You that You are a good God. You want the very best for me. I put my life into Your hands. I trust You because I know that Your plan is always the best. Amen.”

AFFIRMATION:

By planning my own life, I could miss out on unexpected blessings that I would have never dreamed about. I am going to trust God for His plan and submit to His ultimate sovereignty.

WHAT A LOVELY HOME, Part 8b, No. 493

WHAT A LOVELY HOME
Part 8b

“For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods”
(Psalm 96:3).

Who is your master? You have been delivered from the kingdom of darkness that is ruled by the deceiver and the destroyer. You are no longer ruled by that kingdom. You now belong to a new kingdom, the kingdom of our great God. Let Him be your God. May you be reminded again today of the greatness of your God. Acknowledge who He is to you. Praise Him aloud as you read His glorious names and contemplate on each one.

Our God is Lord of lords and Lord of all the earth. He is the Lord of the armies of heaven. He is the Lord of glory. He is Lord of all. He is the Life-Giver. He is our Life. He is the Light. He is the Looser of the prisoners. He is Lovingkindness. He is the Lifter of our heads. He is the Lover of our souls.

Our God is the Mighty God. He is our Maker. He is Merciful. He is clothed with Majesty.

Our Lord God is Omnificent (all-creating). He is Omnipotent (all powerful). He is Omniscient (all-wise and all-knowing). He is Omnipresent (present everywhere). He is Omnibenevolent (all-good and all-loving). He is the Opener of blind eyes.

Our God is our Protector. He is our Provider. He is the Prince of Peace. He is the Pourer forth of His Spirit. He is our Part, our Portion, and our Possession. He is our Praise. He is our Purifier. He is the blessed and only Potentate!

Our God is the Ruler of all rulers. He is our Redeemer, our Reconciler, and the Restorer of our souls. He is the Rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. He is the Raiser up of those who are bowed down. He is the Releaser of the captives. He is the Revealer of truth. He is the Reliever of the fatherless and the widows. He is the Resurrector of the dead. He is our Refuge. He is our Rock—the Rock of our strength, the Rock of our salvation, and the Rock of our refuge. He is our Refiner. He is our Reward, and He is our Righteousness.

Our God is our Savior. He is our Satisfier and our Satiater. He is our Shield. He is our Strengthener. He is our Shepherd. He is our Shelter. He is our Sustainer. He is our Supplier. He is our Shade upon our right hand. He is our Safety. He is our Song. He is our Sufficiency and our Stay. He is the Self-existent One. He is Self-sufficient. He is the Supreme Being of the universe.

Our God is our high Tower of protection. He is our Trainer for war. He is full of Tender mercies. He is Truth.

Our God is called Wonderful and does Wonderful things. He is the only Wise God. His Word is perfect and all His Ways are just. He is the Worthy One.

As we read these wonderful descriptions of God, we realize that they only give us a glimpse of Who He really is. Job 26:14 (HCSB) states: “These are but the fringes of his ways; how faint is the word we hear of Him!” Our greatest joy and pursuit in life should be to know more of Him, but even as we come to know Him increasingly more, we still only fathom the fringes of His glory. We will never fully know Him, but what a privilege to even know the fringes! To even hear the whisper of His voice!

Teach your children these beautiful names of God. Don’t let your children grow up and leave your home without truly knowing the character of God.

PRAYER:

“Great and holy God, I acknowledge today that You are my life. You are my breath. You are my Savior. You are my Sustainer. You are my Strength. You are my Everything. I thank you that I do not need to turn to anyone else. I do not need to go to the world for my counsel, for You are my Counselor. You truly are the God who is Enough. I put my life in Your hands and trust you completely. Amen.”

AFFIRMATION:

“Immortal, invisible, God only wise,

In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise.”

WHAT A LOVELY HOME, Part 8, No. 492

WHAT A LOVELY HOME
Part 8

“His king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted”
(Numbers 24:7).

The last prophetic description Balaam gives of the people of Israel is about their King and their kingdom, which would be greater than any other king or kingdom.

Our heavenly King is far greater than any earthly king. He is King of the nations to whom one day all kings and all peoples will bow. This King is my King and the King of my family. Yes, He is the . . .

FAR GREATER ONE

Just as the term Pharaoh was used for all the kings of Egypt, so Agag was used for the kings of the Amalekites who were the most powerful of the desert tribes at that time. But the God of the Israelites was, and still is, far greater than any other god.

Even at this current time, the land of Israel, and its people, are surrounded by enemies. These enemies want Israel to be wiped into the sea and forgotten forever. But these enemies do not comprehend the God of Israel. He cannot be trifled with. There may be many calamitous things yet to happen, but Israel’s King will win the day. The God of Israel is the Lord God of hosts, the God of the armies of Heaven (Psalm 59:5).

He is the great God, the ruler of the universe. His ways are higher than our ways. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. And yet so often we bring God down to the level of our puny thinking. We run to the counsel of the world before we seek His infinite counsel. We live in doubt and fear rather than acknowledge His ultimate sovereignty and Lordship. We pattern ourselves according to the fashion of this world rather than lining ourselves up with God’s Ways.

Who is our God? He is greater than Agag. His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom that will not pass away. It shall never be destroyed, and all dominions shall serve and obey Him. I think it would be a good idea to remind ourselves of the awesomeness of the God we serve. Lift up your eyes and praise your God as we contemplate together of His greatness.

Our God is Awesome. He is the Almighty. He is the Architect of the universe. He is the Ancient of days. He is the Alpha and Omega. He is the Anointer of our heads.

Our God is Beautiful in majesty. He is our Breath. He is our Buckler. He is our Burden-bearer. He is the Blesser of those who fear Him. He is the Beginning and the end.

Our God is the Creator. He is our Comforter. He is our Counselor. He is our Cup-filler (or perhaps I should say our Bucket-filler). He is our Covenant keeper. He is a God of Compassion and Consolation.

Our God is a Dwelling God and delights to dwell with us. He is our Deliverer. He is our Defender. He is the Delighter of those who seek Him. He is our Defense. He is the Desire of all nations. He is the Disposer of blessings. He is the Dew that refreshes us each morning.

Our God is Emmanuel—God with us. His name is Excellent. He is the Executer of judgment for the oppressed. He is El Shaddai, the God who is Enough. He is the Everlasting Father and the Everlasting King. He is Exalted.

God is the Father of all the families in heaven and earth. He is a Faith-imparter. He is the Fountain of living waters. He is the Forgiver of sins. He is our Feeder. He is our Fortress. He lives Forever and ever. He is Faithful, and He is our Friend.

Our God is Great and greatly to be praised. His name is Great in might. He is Glorious in holiness. He is our Guide even unto death. He is our Glory. He is Goodness, and He is Gracious.

Our God is Holy. He is the Helper of the helpless. He is the Healer of the broken-hearted. He is the Healer of our sicknesses and diseases. He is our Hope. He is our Habitation where we can continually resort. He is the Horn of our salvation. He is our High tower. He is the Hearer and answerer of our prayers. He is the High God. High and lifted up. He is the Holy One of Israel.

Our God is the I AM THAT I AM. He is Infinite. He is our Intercessor. He is Immutable (unchanging).

Our God is Just. He is our Joy. Our God is Jehovah—Jehovah-Rapha, our Healer; Jehovah Jireh, our Provider; Jehovah Nissi, our Banner, Jehovah Ra’ah, our Shepherd; Jehovah Tsidkenu, our Righteousness; Jehovah M’Kaddesh, our Sanctifier; Jehovah Shalom, our Peace; Jehovah Sabaoth, the Lord of Hosts; and Jehovah-Shammah, the Lord who is there. And He is Jealous for our love.

Our God is King of kings. He is King of the nations. He is our Keeper who never slumbers or sleeps.

PRAYER:

“Thank You, Great and Mighty God, that You are the mighty God of the universe. You are the Sovereign Lord. I thank You that my life is safe in Your hands. I can trust You totally. Please save me from making any other person or thing a god in my life. I want You to be God in every part of my life. Amen.”

AFFIRMATION:

“Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!

All Thy works shall praise Thy name,

In earth and sky, and sea:

Holy, Holy, Holy! Merciful and mighty!

God in three persons, Blessed Trinity!

~ Bishop Heber

WHAT A LOVELY HOME, Part 7, No. 491

WHAT A LOVELY HOME
Part 7

“His seed shall be in many waters”
(Numbers 24:7).

God wants your home to be a . . .

FULFILLED HOME

Do you feel hidden away in your home? Do you feel as though your daily mothering is taken for granted? Does a career outside of the home look a little more glamorous? Lift your eyes to see God’s vision. You are fulfilling the most important career in the nation. You are training the next generation. You determine the course of this nation.

Your neighbors may not be aware of what you are doing behind your walls, but just wait! There will come a day when your sharpened and polished arrows will come forth to hit the mark for God. There will come a day when they will come out of your home to reveal God’s truth and light in this nation, and maybe many other nations of the world! There will come a day when you will see the fulfillment of your faithful parenting.

Our scripture above says: “Your descendants will be in many waters.” “The waters” speak of “peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues.” This was fulfilled in the nation of Israel who multiplied like the stars of the heavens and the sands of the seashore. They came out of Egypt a nation, populated Canaan, and have continued to infiltrate and bless the nations of the world until this day. It is through the nation of Israel that we received the Savior of the world (the Word made flesh). It is through the people of Israel we received the precious written Word of God.

God wants to continue filling the world with His truth, light, and love. He wants to reveal Himself through His people today to the nations of the world.
Mothers have a mighty part in fulfilling God’s plan as we train our children for God. Our assignment is powerful. We are training a task force! And our employer is the King of kings, the Lord of the armies of Heaven. The more children we raise, the greater impact we have for God in the world.

I love the comment of Finis Jennings Dake in his Dake’s Annotated Reference Bible. He says” “Each child will in the process of time be a defense, support and propagation of the eternal reproduction of man and fulfillment of the plan of God for man. The more arrows one has, the more enemies he will slay, and the more powerful will he be in the earth. The more children born and saved to help God administer the affairs of the eternal plan for man, the more reward God will have.”

When raising our children, I liked to write Scriptures, positive statements, and poems and put them on the walls for our children to read. One day when our boys were in their late teens, I wrote the following message in the boy’s bathroom: “Australia waits to see what will come out of 18 Welby Street,” which was where we lived in Australia. Yes, it was true. Australia was waiting. More than Australia—the world was waiting.

Our children have proclaimed the Gospel in many countries of the world. They have declared the name of Jesus in countries that I haven’t been to! I have influenced countries for God that I have not set my foot upon because I birthed these children into the world! And they haven’t finished yet! There are many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will also fill the nations of the world with the glory of God. There is no greater work in the world than preparing children to take the gospel to the nations of the world.

We named one of our daughters “Evangeline Faith.” All through her life I said to her: “Evangeline, your name means “Evangel, the bearer of the good news of the gospel.” She knew her destiny. She has been a fearless testimony for God’s truth from a little child right up to this current day, now a grandmother.

Mother, we are not just holding the fort. God’s plan from the beginning was for us to take dominion over the earth and subdue it. We have authority to do this in the natural—and also in the spiritual. We are to be invaders, invading the earth with God’s presence and power. And we are to train invaders!

Keep faithful to your task, dear mother. Your fulfillment is coming. You will rejoice when you see your children proclaiming God’s truth in the nations of the world.

PRAYER:

“Thank you, Almighty God, for this mighty vision. Help me to keep focused and realize the importance of my task. Help me to see that my mothering is not only for today. I am preparing “arrows” to be ready for Your great purposes. I thank You that as I am faithful I will see the fulfillment of this great task.”

AFFIRMATION:

I may be hidden from the worldly view—

That’s okay.
I have a great and powerful work to do—

And must obey.
