Worthy of Praises!

THINK ONENESS

Many think that God created two separate entities of male and female. No, God did not do this. He created man (a single entity) and man consists of male and female. As one man, male and female, we reveal the image of God. Genesis 1:27 says, “God created man (singular--the Hebrew word is adam) in His own image, in the image of God created he him: male (zakar) and female (nekabah) created He them (plural)."

We see this again in Genesis 5:1-2, “In the day  that God created man (singular) in the likeness of God made he him; male and female created he them (plural); and blessed them, and called their name Adam (singular), in the day when they were created.” They were called one name.

We also read that God did not make the female as a new creation. Adam was formed from the dust of the ground. The animals were formed from the dust of the ground. But not Eve. She was not a separate creation. She was created from the man because they are one, although with different and distinctive functions.

God breathed into Adam the breath of life. This was more than breath to make him alive. The animals were alive and breathing but did not receive the breath of life from God. That was something of God Himself that He breathed into man. But He did not breathe into the woman—she already received this life from God through Adam.

Adam found his counterpart, his mate in Eve. When he saw her he exclaimed, “This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman (ishah) because she was taken out of Man (ish).” Then God proclaimed, “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” God spoke prophetically because the man and woman did not have a father and mother. God was establishing His plan for all future marriages, that they would leave their father and mother and become one.

NO LONGER TWO BUT ONE

Jesus and Paul both reiterated God’s powerful words which were established at the very beginning of time. When the Pharisees asked Jesus whether it was lawful for a man to divorce his wife, he answered, “Have you not read that he who made them at the beginning made them male and female, and said, For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no man separate.”

No longer two, but one! Did you notice these words? This is how you must understand your marriage. Unless you build your marriage on this premise you build on a wrong foundation. You must think oneness. God’s arithmetic for marriage is one and one equals one! You are not two people living independent lives together, but two expressions of a single entity who bear the image of God.

In God’s wondrous plan, this does not mean that we have the same function. Marriage is like a coin—one coin, but two different sides. God made two totally different expressions to reveal His image. God created the man to be the head of the home. His responsibility is to provide, to protect by cherishing and giving his life for his wife, and to lead His family in the ways of God as the priest of his home.

Those who have a humanistic thinking of marriage, try to reject the man as the head. But we see this portrayed at the beginning of creation. Adam was created first which denotes headship. He was held primarily responsible for their sin. He named Eve which was considered an exercise of authority in ancient times. He is also the origin of the genealogy of man.

CANNOT ESCAPE

God created His female creation to be a nurturer. She is inherently a nurturer, a nourisher, and a nest builder. Every female is born with a nurturing anointing. There are many women today who reject having children, but they cannot get away from the nurturing anointing that God has divinely put within them. If they refuse to mother children, they will end up mothering cats or dogs or some other pet. I was speaking about this at a conference recently and a lady came up to me afterwards. She said that she lives near a gay community and had always wondered why they all had so many dogs! They have to mother something. They were born for this purpose!

Another time a young mother shared with me how she visited a garage sale conducted by a number of older women. She walked in with her three year old—a beautiful little girl with blonde curls (she is gorgeous). She said that older women did not even pay any attention to her child. Soon, another lady entered with two tiny little puppies. Immediately the women began oohing and aahing over these little puppies. They were so brainwashed by a humanistic society that, even though their nurturing hearts were still intact, they were directed to animals, rather than a beautiful child created in the image of God!

FULLY FEMALE

To wear the image of God as a woman, we need to be fully female.* As we embrace being female in all its entirety we give glory to God who created us in this image. In being fully female we release our husband to be fully male and be what God created him to be. In being fully female we become the glory of man. 1 Corinthians 11:7 says, “The man is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of the man.” We are not his glory, when we try to be like him and do his assigned work; we are his glory when we totally embrace femininity, maternalness, and embrace what God has given us to do.

God did not create woman to be inferior. The virtuous woman is not second-rate. She is her husband’s glory! He is so proud of her that he adorns her as a crown upon his head. (Proverbs 12:4)

A HELPER LIKE GOD

When God created the woman for man, he made her for the purpose of being a “help meet” to her husband. The word meet is the Hebrew word neged and means ‘part opposite, counterpart, mate, in front of.’ In other words, she is opposite to man, but fits him perfectly like a glove.

The word help is the Hebrew word ezer which means ‘helper, to come to the aid of’. The amazing thing is that it is the same Hebrew word that is used when it speaks of God being our help! Here are just a few examples:

“God is our help and shield.” (Psalm 33:20)

“O God, thou art my help and my deliverer.” (Psalm 70:5)

“Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” (Psalm 124:8)

How wonderful to have God for our help. God is always available to help us when we cry out to Him. Are we the same kind of help to our husband? Are we always available to help him? The psalmist proclaims, “Happy is he that has the God of Jacob for his help.” If walk in what God has planned for us, we will have a happy husband! What about your husband? Does he confess, “Happy am I because my wife is my companion and help.”?

THE FIRST MENTION

Even more amazing is that this word is first used regarding a wife, before it is used regarding God! In “the law of the first mention” the word help is given to a wife! This puts much importance on this issue. We reveal the image of God when we help our husband. By the way, we don’t help our husband when we seek to do his career. That undermines his manhood. We help him by making life easier to do his work, by caring for him physically and nutritionally, and by making our home a peaceful sanctuary for him.

There is another word that is used regarding God that is also first used about a wife. This time it is Sarah. Genesis 12:14-15 says, “So it was, when Abram came into Egypt, that the Egyptians saw the woman, that she was very beautiful. The princes of Pharaoh also saw here and commended her to Pharaoh. And the woman was taken to Pharaoh’s house.” The word for commended in the Hebrew is hallel which means praise and is nearly always used for praising God! It is where we get the word, Hallelujah!  Here it is used to praise a woman, and it is the first mention in the Bible!

SING HER PRAISES

The Bible tells us that Sarah was a “great beauty”, but it is obvious that her beauty was more than physical. She was radiant with inner beauty. It was the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit. (1 Peter 3:1-6) This inner beauty and poise kept the courtiers from using Sarah themselves and instead they sing her praises to the Pharaoh himself.

There is another passage which uses hallel to praise a woman. In fact, it uses it three times! I am sure you’ll guess it is in Proverbs 31:28-31, “Her children rise up and called her blessed; her husband also and he praises her: “Many daughters have done well, but you excel them all.” "Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates.”

This virtuous woman is faithful to her husband. He can faithfully trust in her. She is committed to the building of her home. She is not jealous of her husband being an elder in the city gates, for she has the responsibility to guard her home gates, which she does judiciously. She is a hard worker. This woman is praised by her husband, praised by her children and praised by the men in the city gates! She is the talk of the town!
