WHERE IS OUR ZEAL?

MoreZealMen, if we have no zeal, we are like gasoline without octane. What man wants to drive a car that has no "get up and go"? Come on! Sluggishness is definitely something we men cannot stand when it comes to driving cars or working any kind of machinery, including computers.

Some may thank that zeal sounds a little fanatical, but the truth is that most of us could do with a bit more of it! Some, a lot more of it!

True zeal spurns compromise, especially when it comes to principles. Jesus acted with zealous fanaticism to cleanse the house of God. John 2:17 tells us that it was zeal that motivated his actions.

If it's okay for communists, socialists, progressives, and Islamics to be zealots, what about Christians?

The Greek word for "zeal" is zecos meaning "heat, ardor, fervent mind." It's most important for us men to be zealous for our families, our homes, our principles, our work or career, and most important of all, our service to God. A man without zeal will tend to be overly casual. He will be a "moocher" (Do you know this word? We use it in New Zealand and Australia for loitering about aimlessly.)

A man lacking zeal is like trying to drag around a heavy weight. He has no spring in his step, no oomph in his personality, no twinkle in his eye, and no passion for anything. He is like a dead man walking. He is a bore to be around, a fire without heat, a drag on society. This is not the man being created into the image and likeness of God (Romans 8:29).

THE DEVIL CREATES ZOMBIES. GOD CREATES MEN WITH FIRE IN THEIR BONES.

Zeal knows no apathy. It deplores laziness and slackness. It believes in creativity, enthusiasm, and a job well done. Zeal cannot tolerate sitting around and accomplishing nothing (mooching!)

Zeal loves motivation. It rejoices in challenges. It will fight for what is right.

Seven times the Bible mentions God possessing and acting with zeal. Zeal is a great motivator. If God uses it to get things done, so should we. Isaiah 9:7 says, "The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this."

Be encouraged.

TIME TO BE BOLD

LionsProverbs 28:1: "The righteous are as bold as a lion."

God Himself is bold. He despises fear and cowardice. The nation desperately needs bold men and women who will raise bold children for our present and future battles against all that is godless and unrighteous. We must be bold enough to defy all our enemies right to their proud haughty faces.

1 Chronicles 12:8: "And of the Gadites there separated themselves unto David into the hold to the wilderness men of might, and men of war fit for the battle, that could handle shield and buckler, whose faces were like the faces of lions, and were as swift as the roes upon the mountains." These Gadites, whose faces had a lion-like look about them must have indeed been bold men. These mighty men came to help King David, but King Jesus, who is the heavenly David, is surely worth fighting for.

Acts 4:13: "Now when they saw the BOLDNESS of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus." In the face of persecution, Peter and John did not act like timid lambs or nervous mice. Their boldness caused their persecutors to marvel. They realized that the source of this boldness did not come from education, for they were "unlearned" men. They also understood that this boldness did not come from knowledge, for they were "ignorant" men. But, they "took knowledge of them that they had BEEN WITH JESUS." This was the real source of their boldness.

The more time we spend with Jesus, the bolder we will be. Their persecutors did not know that Jesus had just baptized His disciples with power from on high which turned the denying Peter into the bold confessor.

Great boldness to testify for Jesus in the face of hot persecution is the greatest evidence of our claim to be filled with the Spirit of God. Those who spend time with Jesus are the most likely ones to experience great boldness.

God is calling for bold men! Will you be one?

Be encouraged.

TAKE RESPONSIBILITY

familyDevotions

It's wrong for men to sit back and let their wife take all, or most of the family responsibilities.

Men should help when needed. They should give godly advice and discipline when needed.

They should also take their responsibility to lead the family in daily Family Devotions.

WHICH ROAD?

Matthew7-13-14God looks for men who will deny themselves the easy road, especially if the easy road includes the lusts of the flesh and yielding to temptations. Everything is acceptable on the easy road, as long as it makes you feel good and requires no moral resistance. Homosexuality is okay on the easy road, as is divorce, abortion, drugs, sex, alcohol, and witchcraft.

Matthew 7:13-14 says: "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way which leadeth until life, and few there be that find it."

WHAT DOES THE EASY ROAD LOOK LIKE?

Little prayer
Little Bible
Little work for God
Little sacrifice
Little hospitality
Little giving
Little witness
Little families
Living close to the world
Enjoying the world
No to homeschooling
Living on handouts
Let others pay

WHAT DOES THE HARD ROAD LOOK LIKE?

Give me this mountain, e.g. Caleb (Joshua 14:6-15).
The road of mountains and battles with giants
Calling upon the Lord
Sacrifice
Risk-taking
Hard work
Denying the flesh and worldly lusts (2 Corinthians 11:25-30)
The way of the cross

Which is your road?

GET SPARKY

SparkMen who do not have "spark" are bland and boring. Their eyes are dull and lifeless. They have no oomph in their personality or spring in their step.

We know how bad it is when we keep pulling the rope to start the engine of the lawnmower but there is no spark. You feel like throwing the wrench at it! No woman should marry a man like this and no one should ever hire such a man.

Spark denotes life. As men get older, they tend to lose their spark and zest for life, but I do not believe that it has to be this way. Men should take all the corrective measures possible to stop themselves from oxidizing and getting rusty. We know that drugs, alcohol, and pornography can ruin a man's personality. Sitting around and living a sedentary lifestyle, coupled with laziness, and not showing initiative, also takes the spark out of a man.

Mountain climbers would never dream of taking a man without any spark on such a dangerous expedition. God also wants men like Abraham and Caleb with lots of spark to climb His mountains.

Remember, it only takes a few sparks to get a fire going. The best sparks come from Christians filled with the Holy Spirit. Reading God's Word and praying daily are an excellent combination to create sparks.

DARE TO BE DIFFERENT

EBurkeQuoteMen, if we are going to be men of courage, we must speak up for what's right when the opportunity presents itself. If you have got any truth in you, for goodness sake, SAY IT! Do not hide truth behind closed doors.

Edmund Burke wrote, "All it takes for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing."

God is calling for all Christian men to use every opportunity possible to be light shiners and salt preservers. It is high time for us men to tell it the way it is, no matter who is listening. We may get persecuted for it. We may lose our job for it. Even our friends at church, who we wish to impress, may despise us when we do not toe the party line. So what! It's time for men to "play the man" and get rid of all that is yellow and gutless.

No more time for powder puffs who hold their peace when the sword should be drawn.

WE CAN SLAY THE ENEMY THROUGH PRAYER

WhatPrayerIsForOne of the greatest acts of courage in the Bible (and of course there are many) was displayed by Jonathan, King Saul's son in 1 Samuel, chapters 13-14. In 1 Samuel 13:5-7 we read, "And the Philistines gathered themselves together to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horseman, and the people as the sand which is on the sea shore in multitude... When the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait, (for the people were distressed,) then the people did hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in high places, and in pits."

But in chapter 14 we read of how with great courage, Jonathan and his armor bearer discovered themselves to one of the Philistine garrisons. Jonathan spoke words of faith and courage when he said to his armor bearer: "Come, and let us go over unto the garrison of these uncircumcised: it may be that the Lord will work for us: for there is no restrain to the Lord to save by many or by few."

In that first encounter, Jonathan, with his armor bearer, slew about 20 men, then God took over. Remember that the only people in all Israel with sword and spear were Saul and Jonathan. Through the spiritual weapons God has given us, we can be like Jonathan. Through prayer, we can expose ourselves, slay about 20 devils, and just see what God can do with the rest!

WIN OR LOSE?

repentance-2Joshua 7:11-12 says, "Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff. Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed thing from among you."

Abortion, adultery, divorce, homosexuality, marriage breakup and pornography are "accursed" and unless the church repents and cleanses itself through repentance and the power of the blood of Jesus Christ, we will continue to lose in the battles of the Lord.

MEN WHO WILL NOT COMPROMISE

NoCompromiseThe nation needs men who will not compromise their moral values, even under extreme pressure. It needs men who will not compromise truth, even if it financially advantages them to do so. Some men will say anything to get what they want, whether in marriage, promotion, election to public office, or government hand-outs.

God looks for men who will not compromise biblical values, no matter what! The Holy Spirit who indwells all Christians is not compromising. He must be grieved at the way we compromise so easily over divorce, accepting the children He wants to give us, and homeschooling them to save them from humanistic propaganda and morally corrupt peers.

I WILL WALK IN INTEGRITY

WalkIntegrityJob said: "Till I die I will not remove mine integrity from me" (Job 27:5).

A man of integrity will always speak the truth, no matter what pressure he is under to do otherwise.
A man of integrity will always speak the truth even if it hurts him to do so.
A man of integrity will not only speak the truth; he lives the truth.
A man of integrity is trustworthy. If he says he will do something, he will do it. You can bank on his word.

MEN WITH BACKBONE

backbone.jpgWho can tolerate a spineless man?

The nation needs men with backbone--

Men with backbone in their commitment to Christ and His course!

Men who have stickability in the battle of life!

Men who will not bend and bow in the face of opposition!

Men who will not give up on their marriage and fatherhood!

Men who, no matter what the enemy hurls at them, will not quit.

22. LAMBS REIGN AND CONQUER

MarriageSupperRevelation 5:12: "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing." The Lamb of God shall reign, and all those who have become lambs, by the virtue of His blood, shall reign with him.

Men, God's government is opposite to man's government. In man's government, the eloquent, slick, smooth-tongued, rich, and powerful reign. In God's 'government those who are meek, submissive, gentle, and humble, first towards God and secondly towards their fellow-men, shall inherit the earth and reign with Christ over it.

All true Christians need to know that a once slain sacrificial Lamb dwells within their temple (body). He is risen from the dead and He will reign forever and ever. More than that, He is worthy to reign. It is a humble, submissive, meek, innocent Lamb who conquers sin, Satan, and all evil.

The truth is that God has chosen in Christ, lambs of meekness to reign over all of His creation. If we are not lambs in spirit and character, our use for God is very limited.

It takes lambs to make a successful marriage, a successful nation, a successful city, a successful church, and a successful in God's economy. We read in Revelation 19:7 that it is a Lamb that is wedded to the ready bride. The wedding of all weddings is called "The marriage supper of the Lamb." Two meek lambs joined together make a most successful marriage.

Be encouraged.

21. A REPUTATION FOR GENTLENESS

ReputationGentlenessMen of meekness are gentle with their loved ones. They do not desire to hurt or crush their feelings. They are also gentle when dealing with the souls of their fellow men whom they seek to influence for Christ at all times. However, when it is appropriate, they will not hesitate to make a bold stand for righteousness against the enemies of the world, the flesh, and the devil.

The bride in the Song of Solomon, of whom we are a type in this world, is portrayed as "Beautiful as Tirzah, comely as Jerusalem, terrible as an army with banners." Verse 10 pictures her: "Who is she that looketh forth as the morning, fair as the moon, clear as the sun, and terrible as an army with banners?"

In Revelation 5:6 John reveals Jesus Christ as the Lion of the tribe of Judah, but also standing in the midst of the throne as a meek, submissive, innocent Lamb who is worthy to reign. His reign will be very powerful against His enemies.

Jesus was meek in spirit to those who had a repentant heart, but He was a Lion to those who opposed righteousness. Men, this is the kind of meekness God looks for in us.

Philippians 4:5 (JBP) says: "Have a reputation for gentleness."

Be encouraged.

20. BEAUTIFUL ATTITUDE, NO. 3

ThinkMeek"Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth" (Matthew 5:5).

Men, meekness is a great virtue that God loves to see alive and active in His people. I notice in Scripture that meekness is closely associated with other virtues . For example:

"Meekness and gentleness" (2 Corinthians 10:1).
"Lowliness, meekness, longsuffering, and forbearing" (Ephesians 4:2).
"Patience and meekness" (1 Timothy 6:11).
"Gentleness and meekness unto all men" (Titus 3:2).
"Meekness and fear" when giving reason for the hope that is within us (1 Peter 3:15).

Meek men are not pushy, shovey, or demand their own way. They are not "bulls in a china shop" where there are lots of delicate porcelain dishes. They do not run rough-shod over other people's feelings.

Meek men are not haughty, proud, or arrogant in their associations with their fellow men.

It is wrong to associate meekness with weakness for Moses was a very powerful and strong leader as he led the Israelites out of Egypt. He was no pushover timid lamb when dealing with the hard-hearted Pharaoh. And yet Numbers 12:3 states: "Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth."

Jesus Christ was not a man to mess with when it came to facing the devil or the hypocrisy of the Pharisees. Yet in Matthew 11:28-30 He says, "Come unto me . . . learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls."

Meek men are lowly and gentle with their wives and families but they are bold as lions when dealing with the enemy.

Be encouraged.
