ARE YOU PRESERVING YOUR CHILDREN? No. 4.
We know that salt is used to keep food from decaying. In ancient times, long before refrigerators, salt was very valuable because of its necessity for preserving. It was also expensive to purchase.
In ancient covenants salt was used as an important part of the covenant. We have often heard the saying, “You are worth your weight in gold.” In ancient times, they said the same thing, except they said “salt” instead of gold. Salt symbolized the preservation of the covenant as well as the value of the covenant.
In the Scriptures salt represents truth and its ability to preserve nations, cities, and individuals. Salt is directly related to the purity and holiness of the Christian who seeks to apply to the truth to keep himself pure.
Purity is the opposite to decay and applying the truth halts decay, impurity, and backsliding.
As fathers, we must at all times apply the truth, first to our own lives, then to the lives of all our precious children who can so easily be led astray by not only neighbor’s children and school children, but also children in the church or even homeschool groups.
Fathers and mothers, we must never relent on giving our children daily doses of the salt of God’s Word. God’s Word alone has the power to preserve and keep our children holy and free from decay.
2 Peter 1:4: “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promise: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”
Hebrews 12:14: “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.”
