32. Prophesying Spirit

It is the Holy Spirit who releases the spirit of prophecy upon His people. Read 1 Samuel 10:6; Luke 1:67; Acts 11:27-28 and 1 Corinthians 14:1.

33. Purging Spirit

Matthew 3:11-12 says, "He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire." The Lord Jesus Christ will purge (thoroughly cleanse) His people by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Isaiah 4:4 tells us there is coming a day "When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment, and the spirit of burning." The Holy Spirit is a Spirit of judgment and a Spirit of burning who will burn up all the chaff--all that is vain, empty, worldly, and ungodly in our lives.

34. Rapturing Spirit

The word "rapture" is harpazo and means "to snatch away." After Philip had witnessed to and baptized the Ethiopian eunuch down in Gaza, the Holy Spirit snatched him away and suddenly he found himself in Azotus--20 miles away! Amazing! How would you like to suddenly find yourself 20 miles away? I've often thought I'd like to travel by "Philip's transport" although it should more correctly be called "Holy Spirit transport."

In 2 Corinthians 12:2 it tells us how Paul was "caught up" (harpazo) to the third heaven. I am sure that happened by the power of the Holy Spirit, too.

35. Renewing Spirit

Titus 3:5-6 says, "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior." The word "renewing" means a total change of lifestyle, that which makes a person different from the past. The working of the Holy Spirit in our hearts makes a new person out of us. Praise the Lord.

36. Revealing Spirit

Ephesians 3:5 tells us that it is the Holy Spirit that reveals to us the mystery of the gospel.

37. River-flowing Spirit

John 7:37-39 says, "In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive.)" The Holy Spirit is not pictured as a stagnant pool, but a FLOWING RIVER, who wants to flow from our hearts out to a parched and thirsty world. Flowing water is fresh and life-giving. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can be life-givers to all those around us, too.

Isaiah 59:19 tells us that when the enemy comes in like a flood that the Holy Spirit will come like a "rushing river" to drive back the enemy.

38. Sanctifying Spirit

It is the Holy Spirit who sanctifies us. It does not matter how filthy and degraded someone has become, the power of the blood of Jesus is able to cleanse and sanctify. 1 Corinthians 6:11 says, "And such were some of you (involved in vile sinful lifestyles): but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God." The word "sanctify" is hagiazo and means "to hallow something that is filthy, to separate from the world." Read also Romans 15:16; 2 Thessalonians 2:13 and 1 Peter 1:2.

39. Sealing Spirit

Ephesians 4:30 says, "And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption." The Greek word for seal is sphragizo, which means "to stamp for ownership." This stamp is the Holy Spirit. The presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives is the "down payment" or "the guarantee" that we belong to the family of God and have eternal life. It is the seal of ownership by God.

2 Corinthians 1: 22 says, "Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts." The word "earnest" is arrhabon and means, "the pledge, the purchase money given in advance as security for the rest."

Ephesians 1:13-14 says, "After that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory."

"Not by might, not by power, but by my Spirit saith the Lord of hosts"

There is hardly a day goes by when I don't quote this Scripture before the Lord in prayer. I know that I cannot accomplish anything on my own. I am totally cast upon the moving of the Holy Spirit in my own life, and in those for whom I am praying. My dream is to one day find an anointed painter who could somehow paint the essence of this Scripture with the wording. I would love to have a huge picture of it pinned up in my home. 27. Love-Shedding Spirit

I love Romans 5:5 which says, "The love of God is SHED ABROAD in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us." In the Greek, the words "spread abroad" mean "to pour forth, to gush out, to spill." That certainly doesn't sound stagnant, does it? The Holy Spirit doesn't trickle God's love into our hearts, but pours it in. He pours God's love into our hearts in order to pour it out on those around us. It is quite biblical to be "over the top" when "gushing out" God's love. And of course it should first spill out on to our husband and children. Read also Romans 15:30.

28. Manifesting Spirit

The Holy Spirit does not work the same way in every life. He works uniquely and individually. He manifests the power of God in different ways in different people. You can read some of the different ways the Holy Spirit works through His people in 1 Corinthians 12:7-11. Each one of us should yield to the Holy Spirit to allow Him to work in us what God wants for our lives. You don't have to reveal God in the same way as someone else. Be free to let the Holy Spirit use you in His own unique way.

29. Mountain Moving Spirit

Zechariah 4:6-7 says, "This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, not by power, but by my Spirit saith the Lord of hosts. Who are thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shall become a plain." The mountain that loomed before Zerubbabel was to rebuild the temple of God, against insurmountable odds and continual opposition. God promised him that although he couldn't do it in his own strength, this great mountain would become a plain through the working of the Holy Spirit.

We all face mountains at various times. There is no way we can get over them or through them. We can't move them in our own strength, except by the power of the Holy Spirit. Our constant reliance must be upon the Holy Spirit. You cannot mother your children in your own strength. Stop trying. Ask God for the moving of the Holy Spirit in your own life, in the lives of your children, and all those for whom you are praying.

30. More Glorious Ministering Spirit

The ministry of the Holy Spirit in our lives is called "more glorious." 2 Corinthians 3:7-8 says, "But if the ministry of death, written and engraved on stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of the glory of his countenance, which glory was passing away, how will the ministry of the Spirit not be MORE GLORIOUS?" How amazing.

The moving of the Holy Spirit in our lives is more glorious than the law. How can we keep to the letter of the law? We have no hope in our own flesh. However, when we allow the Holy Spirit to move in our lives, He moves in us to walk in holiness, to love Jesus with all our hearts, and to glorify God in our daily walk. He takes us beyond the letter of the law, which is bondage, and moves us to delight in obeying God's commandments, which are life-giving (2 Corinthians 3:6).

31. Pouring Out Spirit

The Holy Spirit was poured out upon Jesus (Luke 1:35; 3:22; John 1:33 and Acts 10:38).

The Holy Spirit was poured out upon the Jewish disciples (Acts 2:1-21; 2:33).

The Holy Spirit was poured out upon the Gentiles (Acts 10:44-46; 11:15-17 and 19:5-6).

God has promised to pour out His Holy Spirit upon all flesh (Proverbs 1:23; Isaiah 32:15; Joel 2:28-32 and Acts 2:17-21).

God has promised to specifically pour out His Holy Spirit upon our children. Isaiah 44:3 says, "For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon they seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring." What a wonderful promise to pray for your children. I pray this promise before the Lord every day.

God has promised, and therefore the day will come, when He will pour out His Spirit upon "the house of David" and they will recognize Christ as their Messiah. Zechariah 12:10 NASB says, "And I will pour upon the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn." PRAYER:

20. Indwelling Spirit

1 Corinthians 6:19 says, "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?" The word "temple" is actually naos and is literally speaking of the Holy of Holies where the Shekinah glory of God dwelt in the midst of God's people in the wilderness. However, God no longer dwells in a tabernacle. Instead, my body and your body has now become a Holy of Holies for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. How incredible.

The Holy Spirit delights to dwell in our hearts. He delights to dwell in our homes. He is a dwelling and abiding Spirit. It takes a lot to comprehend this amazing truth, doesn't it? But when you realize that your body is the shrine of the Holy Spirit, it changes your attitude to your mothering and everything you do in your home. No longer will you drudge along in your own strength, complaining and despairing. Instead, you will rejoice in that everything you do is a sacred task. It is a holy moment when you hold your baby and your little ones in your arms. It is a holy moment when you do the laundry and wash dishes. It is a holy moment when you clean the bathroom and scrub floors. Because the Eternal and Holy Spirit resides within you.

Read Luke 11:13; John 14:16-17, 23; Acts 2:38-39; 5:32; 8:14-17; 15:8; Romans 8:9-11; 1 Corinthians 2:12; 3:16; 2 Corinthians 6:16; 1 Thessalonians 4:8; 2 Timothy 1:14; 1 John 3:24 and 4:13.

21. Interceding Spirit

Romans 8:26-27 says, "Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God."

How can we keep up with the working of the Holy Spirit in our lives? Apart from everything else, He also intercedes for us with groanings that cannot be uttered. He helps us to pray when we don't know how to pray. Many times He will pray through us with groanings too deep for words. Read also 1 Corinthians 14:14-15; Ephesians 6:18 and Jude 20.

22. Joy-Giving Spirit

Romans 14:17 says, "For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness,, and peace, and JOY IN THE HOLY GHOST." Our joy is not dependant on our circumstances, but the joy of the Holy Spirit who lives within us. No matter what you are facing, you can have joy every day in your home because the joy of the Holy Spirit is in you. Paul affirmed the Thessalonian believers, "And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with JOY OF THE HOLY GHOST" (1 Thessalonians 1:6).

But, you don't feel joyful? Please don't rely on your feelings. If you have the Holy Spirit dwelling in you, you already have joy. Therefore, live in the experience of who the Holy Spirit is in you.

23. Justifying Spirit

1 Corinthians 6:11 tells us that we "are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God." To be justified means to be made righteous. We are not made righteous by our own goodness, because we have none of our own. We are made righteous by the Spirit of God. One way to remember the meaning of justified is to realize that God looks upon us "just as if I'd" never sinned.

24. Leading Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the One who wants to take the lead in our lives (Matthew 4:1; Luke 4:1; Acts 15:28; 16:6-7 and Romans 8:14). He wants to lead you each day as you mother in your home. Ask Him to take the lead and guide you as you walk through your day.

He often leads by forbidding us to go somewhere or do something (Acts 16:6).He also leads by appointing and directing us (Acts 20:28).

25. Liberating Spirit

The Holy Spirit does not lead us into legality or religiosity. The Holy Spirit leads us into freedom in Christ. It also has the meaning of generosity. 2 Corinthians 3:17 tells us that "Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." Are you in bondage? Are you in a spirit of legalism? Sorry, this is not the work of the Holy Spirit. Are you tight-fisted and selfish? This is not the working of the Holy Spirit.

26. Life-Giving Spirit

Romans 8:11 says, "But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken (make alive) your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you." How can you feel dead and forlorn when the life-giving Spirit lives in you? Well, you may feel like this, but feelings are only temporary. The eternal truth is that the Holy Spirit in you is a life-giving spirit and wants to energize and pour life into your mortal body.

PRAYER:

"Thank you, Father, that you have chosen to make my earthly clay the "Holy of Holies" of your Holy Spirit. Help me to always be aware of this truth for I don't want to live below your purposes for me. I want you to fill my temple to bring glory to your name. Amen."

The Holy Spirit is called the Eternal Spirit. He was involved with the Father and the Son from the eons of eternity in the plan of redemption. One commentator describes our eternal redemption coming "through His most burning love, flowing from His eternal Spirit." The Holy Spirit has been working since eternity and continues to work. 12. Faith-Imparting Spirit

Acts 11:24 tells us about Barnabas who was "full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added to the Lord." How is faith released in our heart? By the operation of the Holy Spirit within us. The more we allow the Holy Spirit to move in our lives, the more faith He will generate in our hearts.

13. Fellowshipping Spirit

Paul prays for the Corinthian believers in 2 Corinthians 13:14, "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost be with you all. Amen." The word communion is koinonia meaning fellowship. The Holy Spirit does not want to be ignored in our lives. He wants to communicate and fellowship with us. Aren't you so grateful for the moment by moment fellowship of the Holy Spirit in your life? We were born to have fellowship with the Holy Spirit and Christ Jesus (1 Corinthians 1:9). Teach your children this wonderful truth, too. Read also Philippians 2:1.

14. Filling Spirit

The Holy Spirit not only wants to dwell in us, but FILL us. Ephesians 5:18 says, "Be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess, but be FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT; speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ." When you are filled with the Holy Spirit you'll be thanking God at all times for all things. The Holy Spirit moves our hearts to praise Him, and therefore the more we are filled with the Spirit, the more we will want to praise God.

Here are some examples of people being filled with the Holy Spirit: Luke 1:15, 41, 67; 4:1; Acts 2:4; 4:8, 31; 6:35; 7:55; 9:17; 11:24; 13:9, 52.

15. Fruit-Bearing Spirit

The Holy Spirit wants to grow beautiful fruit in our lives. Galatians 5:22-23 says, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law." What evidence are we revealing of the Holy Spirit's working in our lives? Does our husband get to eat of this fruit? Do our children partake of this fruit?

16. Glorifying Jesus Spirit

One of the main tasks of the Holy Spirit is to give glory and honor to Jesus Christ. We know the Holy Spirit indwells us when we want to honor Jesus. "He shall glorify me," Jesus said in John 16:14.

17. Grace-Giving Spirit

The Holy Spirit is called "the Spirit of grace" in Hebrews 10:29. The word "grace" is the beautiful Greek word charis and reveals God's great love and salvation which is given freely without expectation of return. It reveals God's lovingkindness to us whether we deserve it or not. One way to remember the understanding of this word is: God's Riches At Christ's Expense.

God's grace loves the unlovely. God's grace never gives up, even when spurned and rejected. It is not a respecter of persons. I need God's grace to work in my life, don't you?

May we never disdain the Holy Spirit who dwells in us. Hebrews 10:29 CEB says, "How much worse punishment do you think is deserved by the person who walks all over God's Son, who acts as if the blood of the covenant that made us holy is just ordinary blood, and who insults the Spirit of grace?"

18. Helping Spirit

Romans 8:26 tells us that when we are weighed down with a burden that The Holy Spirit comes to help us in our weakness.

19. Hope-Filling Spirit

Romans 15:13 says, "Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may ABOUND IN HOPE, through the power of the Holy Ghost." Hope believes that God is going to do good things, even when everything looks hopeless. But, we can't boost up hope in the flesh; it only comes by the power of the Holy Spirit.

"Thank you, Father, that your Holy Spirit has been working for my blessing since the eons of eternity. Thank you that He is the Eternal Spirit who was involved in my redemption, and is now working, against all the power of the enemy, to reveal Christ to me and in me.
