WHAT ARE YOUR CHILDREN'S MEMORIES?
Charles Hadden Spurgeon writes: "It would not be easy for some of us to recall the hour when we first heard the name of Jesus. In very infancy that sweet sound was as familiar to our ear as the hush of a lullaby. Our earliest recollections are associated with the HOUSE OF GOD, THE FAMILY ALTAR, THE HOLY BIBLE, THE SACRED SONG, and THE FERVENT PRAYER."
It was this foundation that produced a man such as Spurgeon. What about your children? Are these the memories they are growing up with? Or do they have memories of arguments and dissension? TV programs and social media. Rushing here and there to this and that.
What about The Family Altar? Many people wouldn’t even know what that phrase is all about. It was the name they gave to the gathering of the family each to listen to God’s Word and pray together. Is this a memory your children will take with them and also establish in their future family?
If these are not their memories, we have dropped the baton! Oh how easy it is to drop the baton from one generation to the next. We as mothers have a responsibility to keep God’s truths and ways flowing in our families from one generation to another. We must be generational mothers.
I am always inspired by God’s mandate to us in Isaiah 59:21: “’As for Me, this is My covenant with them’ says the LORD. ‘My Spirit will not depart from you, and My words that I have put in your mouth will not depart from your mouth or from the mouths of your children and grandchildren, from now on and forevermore,’ says the LORD.”
